The Persian scholar and traveler Abu Rihan Alberuni accompanied Mahmud of Ghazni on his campaigns to India and left accounts of the country in the early 11th century CE, where he explicitly mentioned 'Jajahuja' or Khajuraho as the capital of the Chandelas. Ibn Battuta visited it significantly later, in the 14th century CE.
