The Indian Education Commission of 1882, popularly known as the Hunter Commission, was appointed by Lord Ripon, who was the Viceroy of India at that time. The commission was chaired by Sir William Wilson Hunter and was tasked with looking into the complaints of non-implementation of Wood's Despatch of 1854, evaluating the contemporary state of primary and secondary education in India, and suggesting means for its extension and improvement.
