Bharati is India's third Antarctic research station, commissioned in March 2012. It was established to facilitate year-round multi-disciplinary scientific research in oceanography and continental structure. India's other research stations are Dakshin Gangotri (first, now submerged and used as a supply base) and Maitri (second).
