The Tropic of Cancer ($23^{\circ }30^{\prime }\text{N}$) passes through eight states in India: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, and Mizoram. It passes very close to or through cities like Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), and Ranchi (Jharkhand). However, Prayagraj (Allahabad) in Uttar Pradesh lies significantly north of the Tropic of Cancer, closer to the Indian Standard Time (IST) meridian of $82^{\circ }30^{\prime }\text{E}$.
