What were the two assemblies during the Early Vedic period?

During the Early Vedic period, tribal kingdoms were assisted by popular local political assemblies that checked the arbitrary powers of the king. The two most prominent deliberative assemblies mentioned in Rigvedic texts are the 'Sabha' (a council of select elders/elites) and the 'Samiti' (a larger general folk assembly of the entire tribe).
