When was the Hindu Widow Remarriage Act passed?

The Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act (Act XV of 1856) was passed on July 26, 1856. Driven prominently by the tireless advocacy and campaigning of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, it legalised the remarriage of Hindu widows across all jurisdictions of the East India Company.
