Where did the Chipko movement first started in India?

The Chipko movement was a non-violent forest conservation movement that began in 1973 in the Reni village of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand (which was then a part of Uttar Pradesh). Prominent leaders like Sundarlal Bahuguna and Chandi Prasad Bhatt led the movement, where villagers hugged trees to protect them from commercial loggers.
