Who is credited with the discovery of radioactivity?

Radioactivity was discovered by French physicist Henri Becquerel in 1896 while working on phosphorescent materials. He found that uranium emitted spontaneous rays that could expose a photographic plate. Marie and Pierre Curie later expanded on this work and coined the term "radioactivity."
