Who was referred to as 'Sandrocottus' in the writings of the Greeks?

Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Mauryan Empire, was referred to as Sandrocottus (or Androcottus) by classical Greek historians such as Strabo, Justin, and Plutarch. Sir William Jones later conclusively identified Sandrocottus as Chandragupta Maurya.
